Fun Facts
I absolutely love yoga, and I even teach a few classes each week! Hiking is one of my favorite pastimes, but I equally love snapping photos of Bam Bam, my ridiculously fluffy cat.
About Me
I attended Utah State University on an athletic scholarship and graduated with Honors in American Studies in 2010 (GPA: 3.8). I was a Research Scholar, made the Dean's list repeatedly, and was Student of the Year for both the American Studies Program as well as the English Department.
After spending time in Americorps, I started working in informal science education. This helped spark a love for the sciences, and I am now at the University of Utah preparing for Dental School.
Experience
I never thought I would love teaching, but after my first days working with AmeriCorps I was hooked. I taught core science curriculum through the Leonardo museum to middle school students throughout the state of Utah through the Leo on Wheels program. I also created and led field trips and summer camps for K-12 students before eventually moving to Brain Chase, another organization which focuses on innovative, nonformal, multidisciplinary education.
Approach
I've had the unique opportunity to work closely with school teachers and professors alike. I understand their myriad approaches to teaching to the core, the test, or other standards, but more closely relate to the students in their endeavors; this approach allows me to understand each student's specific situation, then develop an individualized plan to reach his or her goals. I truly believe that every student is capable of reaching their hopes, goals, and dreams.

English: American Studies
English Tutoring
My degree was housed in the English department, and the large majority of my scholastic pursuits revolved around writing and literature. I specialized in creative writing, received the Research Scholar designation upon graduating, and was designated as Student of the Year in both my program, American Studies, and the English Department.
Since graduating, I've immersed myself into business writing, including copywriting and creating blog posts. I also keep up with my own writing endeavors, namely, poetry and short stories.
Pre Calculus Tutoring
I was at the top of my class for Pre Calculus, but I had to work for it. I wanted to understand everything the subject had to offer--this particular subject can be passed by simply memorizing equations, but by understanding the processes a Pre Calc student becomes an even more capable student who is especially prepared for tests.
Study Skills Tutoring
After entering into university for my first undergraduate pursuits, I quickly realized that the study methods I used in high school no longer served me. I worked with professors, T.A.s and conducted research of my own in order to learn the best way to maximize my study time. I've since had the opportunity to share what I know with others, initially with varying degrees of success. I've learned that no one study method is a perfect fit for all people; students need to try different methods out, and be flexible with learning new techniques.
Writing Tutoring
My degree required two specializations, or cognates. I chose creative writing for one of mine, and it has been, by far, the most useful tool in both my academic and professional careers. My passion is for academic writing--heavily based in research, that is--and my academic track record can attest to this fact. I've tutored and edited for others for years, and am confident that I can share what I know to help your student succeed.
Writing Advance Tutoring
My entry here will dovetail from the "writing" qualification; namely, I was required to complete an Honors' Thesis in order to graduate with an Honors degree. My thesis was based on literary research and took approximately 12 months to complete. My thesis is 55 pages long, but the important thing to note is the revision and editing processes, both of which work hand in hand to promote quality writing both in and out of the classroom.
Algebra Tutoring
I completed College Algebra, then Pre Calculus, with flying colors, but had to work hard to earn my grade. I understand the difficulties faced by math students, and can help your student find joy and ease in Algebra.
Chemistry Tutoring
I taught science through a science and technology museum for three years, with a large focus on Chemistry. My own personal interests revolve around Chemistry, and I received A's in both General Chemistry I and II and their labs.
Chemistry is really just a way of looking for patterns. Once a student is trained to see certain patterns, the rest falls into place with relative ease. Chemistry is *not* a class where memorization can take the place of hard work, but with some practice, it can be one of the most rewarding subjects your student will experience.
Science Tutoring
I taught science through a science and technology museum for three years, and gained large insight into the major setbacks faced by science students. As it turns out, science can be really fun! Unfortunately, many students fail to see this, especially due to large class sizes, disinterested teachers, or a failure to focus properly. Due to my unique background in nonformal education, I'm able to get your student back on track and make science fun again!
I've taken College Bio I, college Chem I and II, and the accompanying labs, and received A's in all classes.
Trigonometry Tutoring
I completed College Algebra, then Pre Calculus, with flying colors, but had to work hard to earn my grade. I understand the difficulties faced by math students, and can help your student find joy and ease in Trigonometry (which really is quite a fun subject!).
Math Tutoring
I have a perfect track record in Math, but I had to work hard to get there. I understand the common hold ups students experience, and can help create a gateway into understanding.
