About Me
I love school, especially math and science! I recently graduated with degrees in Biology and Chemistry from charlotte">UNC Charlotte. After I graduated, I moved to Atlanta to teach in underserved public schools. While in school, I helped in the Biology department doing research on different types of cancers and more effective ways to treat them. As the lab kept my problem solving skills sharp, I really enjoyed it.
I have gained most of my experience as a mentor through the UNCC Chemistry department. I worked for a resource room that is open to all students to receive help on their homework. Students could also come to prepare for exams or ask any general questions. I also lead two classes of freshmen in introductory chemistry. We work on new problems that were covered in class, and preview the new material that will be in the next lecture. More importantly, I gave advice on college and life away from home for the first time. These classes were very rewarding to me.
My approach in being a atlanta">tutor or mentor is very Socratic. I believe that giving away answers is no solution, as it fails to prepare the student to move forward. I like to answer questions with questions. This gets students thinking critically and helps to let them develop their own way to problem solve. I am big on familiarity with new material before it is presented in class, effective note taking, and student-teacher communication.
