Fun Facts

I absolutely adore animals! Especially exotics. This past summer I had a fantastic time interning at the Reid Park Zoo, and worked closely with giraffes on a daily basis. I also love hiking, and my dog Toto and I go for adventures on Mt. Lemon all the time, bird watching. I don't plan to confine my explorations to Tucson however, and next summer I will be traveling to South Africa, working with White Rhino conservationists on a three week excursion.

About Me

I am a senior at the University of Arizona. I am majoring in Wildlife Management and Conservation, and I am also a member of the Honors College. I have been on the Dean's List all 4 years, and will graduate with a minor in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I will eventually move on to attend graduate school, and receive a PHD in Ecology.

Experience

This will be my third year as a tutor for FrogTutoring. Also, in high school I was a member of the National Honors Society, and provided assistance to peers for both my Junior and Senior year of school. I also worked as an associate at As You Wish, with many hours as an art instructor for several of the classes they offered. This allowed me to gain experience teaching a range of students, from toddlers to adults. I have also taught public speaking seminars as a Registered Parliamentariarian.

Approach

I wholeheartedly encourage positive reinforcement in all teaching settings. There is no reason to use negative or harmful language, as this serves only to deflate confidence levels, and is simply irresponsible. Calm and methodical explanations are always the proper way to explain tricky subjects, and after enough time spent on a topic there is no reason students shouldn't be able to move forward. I also recognize the importance of fun; a boring teacher is one that's ignored!

College Algebra Tutoring

I took college algebra last semester, and received a 98% relatively easily. I know the correct way to study for this subject, and can help with almost any problem presented to me.

Algebra Tutoring

I have taken several levels of algebra courses, both in high school and in college. I can confidently say I have an adequate grasp of the subject, and can help with questions concerning: the quadratic formula, solving for variables, FOIL, and much more.

Algebra II Tutoring

I have taken several algebra courses, with levels up to College Algebra at the UA. I can help explain more complicated concepts, such as dividing functions or solving for functions inside of other functions. I can also help with calculator use, and more complicated graphs.

AP English Tutoring

I took AP English my senior year of high school, and most likely read all the same books current students are reading. I received a very high A in the course, and feel confident in assisting with essay structure, sentence flow, and basic conventions. I can also assist in grasping abstract concepts, such as theme, symbolism, and understanding tricky plot motifs.

AP History Tutoring

I have taken several history courses, including AP World History, and AP US History. I can show proper study techniques to best remember important dates, as well as explain more abstract thoughts such as how certain dates and events interconnect and affect history. Most issues with learning history come down to poor study habits however, and I feel I give advice on both note taking and studying.

Arts Tutoring

I have been an artist my whole life, and know that in most art classes it is a feeling of self-doubt that prohibits students from excelling. Most art teachers simply grade on participation and completion, rather than actual work produced. Art is a subjective topic, and so encouragement and positive reinforcement is usually enough to help students complete art projects. I was also an art instructor at As You Wish for the past year, and can help with several mediums including pottery, painting, drawing, blending, shading, zentangle, etc.

Biology Tutoring

I am a Wildlife major at the UA, and am taking second semester college biology this semester. I can easily help students understand high school level biological concepts, from recognizing different components of the cell and their functions, mitosis/ meiosis, photosynthesis, and basic metabolic functions.

Economics Tutoring

I took AP Government/ Economics in high school, and am currently taking Economics at the UA. I feel confident explain topics such as elasticity, demand/supply, and relationships between revenue and price. Since I am currently taking a college level economics class, I will most likely have just been re-taught the same topics I am being asked for help on, and will very easily be able to recall and explain the concept.

English Tutoring

I have always exceeded in English classes, and tested out of taking college level English courses. I can readily help with topics such as motifs, symbolism, theme, plot, character development, and much more. I most likely read the same books in high school I am being asked for assistance with, and will be able to recall what type of work the teacher is looking for.

Math Tutoring

I am confident in my ability to help students with a variety of subjects, from algebra and pre-calculus, to geometry. I can explain many concepts, such as long division, finding variables, FOIL, graphing, calculator use, sin/tan/cosin, Pythagorean Theorem, and muc more.

Pre Algebra Tutoring

I have taken almost every level of math, up to Applied Calculus. Pre Algebra is simple mathematical concepts, such as adding/ subtracting, long division, fractions, multiplication, and beginning to find variables in functions. I can use my knowledge of higher level math to show students ways of solving problems that might give them new insight and understanding.

Pre Calculus Tutoring

I took AP Pre- Calculus my senior year of high school, and am currently in Calculus. I recognize concepts in my calculus class that help perfectly explain things my pre-calc class taught me, and I using this knowledge I can explain more difficult topics students may struggle with. Pre-calc is really just advanced algebra with new graphing concepts thrown in, and abstract thoughts that are the introduction of calculus. I can help make all of this more clear, and am confident in my full understanding of this subject.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

I have always read at advanced levels, and love to read in my free time. I have taken AP English and Writing classes, and tested out of college level English classes. Reading comprehension difficulty often comes down to a lack of vocabulary. I have an extensive grasp of English vocab, and will be able to explain difficult words, and then give them context in the material being studied.

Writing Tutoring

Writing difficulties can often be attributed to either a lack of vocabulary, or an inability to understand basic conventions or organization. I can help review student's work, and then give them feedback about what should be changed. If the student simply cannot begin writing, I can provide structural advice about how to organize a paper, and give them ideas for thesis formation.

Math Advance Tutoring

I have taken math classes at almost every level, up to Applied Calculus. I can easily explain concepts in beginning algebra, including solving for variables, the quadratic function, FOIL, long division, and fractions.

Middle School Math Tutoring

I have taken almost every level of math, up to Applied Calculus. I can easily explain concepts such as multiplication, division, graphing, fractions, etc. I can show good study techniques for remembering basic ideas, and how to use a calculator effectively.

Study Skills Tutoring

Repetition and organization are often the keys to proper studying. I can show students how to take notes, and then review them later for comprehension.

Elementary Math Tutoring

Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, and Fraction usage are all basic concepts I feel very comfortable teaching. I have worked with small children before, both as an older sister and as an art instructor at As You Wish, giving me lots of experience helping kids. I an show simple methods to grasp tricky concepts, and always use positive encouragement.

Communication Tutoring
