Fun Facts
One thing many friends and family members know about me is that I am a major foodie! I love talking about fun restaurants, new recipes, and cooking shows. I also happen to be an adventurous eater and have tasted various insects during my travels to China. I played three sports during middle school and high school, and played volleyball in college. Lastly, I have an interest in arts and crafts such as knitting, etching glassware, and embroidering.
About Me
I graduated from Occidental College with a degree in Kinesiology and Chinese Studies in the Spring of 2015, and was on the Dean’s List all 4 years of my undergraduate education. I also studied abroad in China during the summer of 2015 through a government-funded scholarship, Critical Language Scholarship. Currently, I am in my last year of graduate school at the University of California San Francisco to become a physical therapist.
Experience
During my senior year of college I was selected by the Kinesiology Department to tutor other college students in Intro. to Kinesiology, Human Anatomy, and Human Physiology. My partner and I held bi-weekly study sessions for the different classes, and created weekly worksheets that pertained to the class material they were learning that week. In addition, I have experience tutoring middle school and high school-aged students in various math and science subjects.
Approach
I believe every student is unique in how they learn new material. Some are visual learners, some need all the details, some want the big picture, and some learn best through analogies. I use all of these approaches when helping the student learn the material in a fun and engaging way. Furthermore, I have learned that helping the students practice good study habits for homework and exams will allow them to become more confident in themselves and eventually have to rely less on a tutor’s guidance.
