Fun Facts
I was in band from fourth grade through my junior year of college. My favorite sport is soccer, and I currently play on a team in a co-ed recreational league in Tempe. My best friends are in a band, and I get to travel to shows and benefit concerts with them. Most of my taste in music was largely influenced by them, but music in general is something that makes me happier than a kid in a candy store. Also, I am quite small.
About Me
I am a senior at Arizona State University studying Genetics, Cell and Developmental Biology. For the past two years I was a member of the Sun Devil Marching Band playing the mellophone. This year I am completing an Honors Thesis project in order to graduate from Barrett the Honors College. I intend to go to medical school after graduating, but am taking a year off in between to gain more experience in the medical field, and to work in a lab in a genetics research facility, hopefully at Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
My experience as a phoenix">tutor ranges from informal phoenix">tutoring of my three younger sisters, to mentoring ASU freshman biology students. My sisters have expressed their gratitude for simple explanations of concepts that may have otherwise been confusing. For the freshman biology students I held review sessions before their exams, and they would always ask when the next one would be scheduled; they progressed from uncertain students to those who felt confident in their abilities and skills to succeed in college level courses.
My approach to phoenix">tutoring is something more of a guide than a teacher. I spend time assessing where the students are strugglng and what concepts were presented to them that they may not fully understand. In trying to explain it to them, I will use an example or setting that is memorable and simplified, and after have them explain it to me in their own words. My reasoning behind this is that if they can teach me, then they understand the concept.
