Fun Facts

I am absolutely fascinated by math, but in elementary school I failed math over and over again. In middle school, my mathematics situation took a turn for the better through practice, persistence, and lots of patience! My math teachers couldn't get rid of me. I would sit after school with them until every math problem was solved correctly. And actually they did not help very much. It was just knowing that they cared enough to know that I could figure things out on my own. They believed in me!

About Me

I am foremost a mom to two wonderful kids. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1984 with a bachelors degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. After college, I volunteered for two years as a math teacher in San Antonio. Yes, hard to believe! Since then my life has taken many twists and turns. Full time teacher turned into full time special needs mom running my own home preschool program and tutoring on the side. Now, I teach and tutor full time from my home and online.

Experience

I taught all levels of math for a total of 12 years in Texas, including public, private, and charter schools. After my daughter was born with a myriad of special issues, I was blessed with the opportunity to stay home full time. I designed and operated a preschool program in my home for 12 years, all the while tutoring math on the side. Since then, I have made tutoring and teaching in my home a full time business, open to home schoolers during the day and other students in the evening.

Approach

My uncanny ability to "connect" with students, as well as my sense of humor and joy create a calm non-intimidating environment in which learning takes place. By encouraging independence and fostering confidence in their own abilities, I challenge them to build their mathematical 'connections" from their own personal knowledge base. By analyzing a problem from various angles, we find more than one way to solve a problem. With practice, persistence, and patience, every challenge into a triumph.
