Fun Facts
I was born in Texas, but I grew up in the east coast! I originally wanted to study philosophy at college, but decided to study English instead. When I am not walking my dogs or reading flash fiction on the internet, I lurk thrift stores for neat gadgets, old adornments, and vintage clothing.
About Me
I received a bachelor's degree in English from Montclair State University. Although most of my coursework focused on my major field of study, I also took courses that concentrated on teaching literature, writing, and English grammar to students of various grade levels. Working for Frog Tutoring will allow me to put theory into practice, which is exciting! I hope to enroll in Montclair's well-regarded teacher education program for a Master of Arts in Teaching this upcoming fall.
Experience
While a junior at university, I had the privilege of tutoring four students weekly in grades 1-3 in reading, writing, and mathematics. During this time, I learned how to adjust my teaching style to cater to each student's needs and produce reports to track each student's academic progress. The sense of joy I felt while tutoring has not left me, so I hope to continue on helping students master skills that they will need to become self-possessed individuals.
Approach
It is essential for me to think of each pupil as an individual; one pedagogical approach might not be applicable to one student but it might be for another. When I enter a tutoring session, I take note of the strengths, weaknesses, and characteristics of a student in order to tailor a specific approach that best fits his or her learning style. Along with a can-do attitude and diligence, I hope to make tutoring sessions exciting and thought-provoking!

English Tutoring
My degree program allowed me to explore various sub-fields of English: I studied mostly English literature but also had the chance to study English grammar, writing pedagogy, and creative writing as well.
Literature Tutoring
Most of my coursework at university consisted of literature courses. Much of the curricula attempts to provide students with well-rounded knowledge of English literature--from the very old to the most recent texts--and I think it does so successfully. From Chaucer to John Green, I believe myself more than qualified for the task!
Writing Tutoring
I have a special interest in writing pedagogy. The two courses I took at school explored in-depth the various approaches to teaching writing to students of all ages, so tutoring college-level writers would allow me to put much of the theory I learnt into practice.
