Fun Facts

I LOVE traveling, especially to places that are a bit off-the-beaten path. During and after college, I spent summers working, studying, and learning to cook in Tunisia and Bulgaria.
I did Irish dance and diving in high school and college, and am really excited about the diving boards at Green Lake Park this summer.

About Me

I'm a Master's student in Public Administration at Syracuse University. I love reading, hiking, and putting cilantro in everything I cook. I'm from Central New York, and am excited to be in Seattle while writing my Master's thesis. My favorite thing about Seattle so far is Volunteer Park.

Experience

During college and university, I tutored elementary, middle, and high school students in math, history, English, and French. The year after I graduated college, I worked as an English teaching fellow at a high school in Bulgaria. I really love helping students understand material, to get to that moment where a concept or lesson "clicks."

Approach

I always learned best by breaking things down to their simplest concepts and applying them by drawing models, constructing arguments, or otherwise practicing how to use new information.
As a tutor, I work to find each student's unique learning style and to review material in a way that specifically accommodates that unique style.
It's really important to me that students understand why an answer is correct and the process taken to arrive at that answer.

French Tutoring

I took AP French in high school and have tutored 9th and 10th grade French. I've lived in and frequently visit Tunisia, speaking exclusively in French while there.

I've realized that everyone learns language differently and will make sure you feel really confident in whatever you're learning, by tutoring you in your unique learning style.

I can really help you:

-Understand all of the -IR, -RE, and -ER verb conjugation rules across the present, simple past, imperfect, conditional, and subjunctive tenses.
-Easily and fluidly use those massive lists of vocabulary words in your speech and in your writing.
-Polish your French accent.
-Come up with strategies to break down French reading passages, to figure out what's being said.
-Speak with you in French.

History Tutoring

I took advanced/honors history in high school and minored in the history of "western civilization" in college. I've also tutored 11th and 12th grade high school students in preparation for final exams.

I can really help you:

-Understand the political, economic, and social trends in Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East from before the Common Era, through the 20th century.

-Clearly articulate these political, economic, and social trends verbally and in your writing assignments.

-Strengthen your document-based analytical skills.

AP English Tutoring

I took AP English courses in 11th and 12th grades, taught 12th grade English for a year, and worked as the assistant editor for a social science research journal.

I can really help you:
-Strengthen your essay-writing skills;
-Find strong analytical arguments for essay tests on the books you've read in class and for your AP exam essays;
-Figure out what the AP exams' multiple-choice questions are really asking.

Study Skills Tutoring

I can help you figure out how to break down into chunks and work through all of the material you've got to study, so it's easier to prep for upcoming tests.

I can also help with:

-Creating a study plan or homework management plan that you'll stick with, so you don't feel overwhelmed
-Teaching you to identify what material is actually important to review before a test, between all of the information in your notes, textbook, homework, and class projects
-Finding structured approaches for you to use in memorizing formulas in sciences and math
-How to quickly analyze the important points in the novels you've read or the historical periods you're studying

Biology Tutoring

Over the past year, I've enjoyed volunteering twice weekly to tutor middle and high school students in biology. In high school, I took advanced biology.
