Fun Facts
I really enjoy being outdoors, taking hikes, going camping and spending time with my friends and family. I LOVE dogs and horses, and all animals for that matter! Being warm in the sun is probably my favorite pass-time? :)
About Me
I have been a tutor for over a year and am planning on completing my multiple subject program at CSUSM to become a teacher. I have a bachelors degree in Liberal Studies and a minor in psychology, and was on the Deans list for 5 semesters of college. I have been a nanny/babysitter, swim coach and lifeguard my whole life and feel that teaching children in education and sports is my passion.
Experience
As I said above, all of my previous jobs have been with children. I love kids and I especially love teaching and coaching them. I take pride in being able to help people, and see that "light bulb" moment when a student understands something they have been struggling with.This will also help me become a better teacher for the future!
Approach
I feel that I am very patient and student centered when it comes to tutoring and teaching in general. I think it is very important for students to be able to explore, create and solve problems on their own. I will definitely be there for guidance and support, but I feel when students are able to think deeply about something, they will benefit and retain the information much more than they would if I were to just give them the answers. I think this is where 1-1 tutoring is so beneficial.

Liberal Studies
English Tutoring
I have tutored/student taught kindergartners and 4th graders in reading, writing and all ELA areas. I did all of my work at schools where English was most students second language, so I feel strongly about my skills for English.
Math Tutoring
Math is my favorite subject. I have always excelled and enjoyed math over all other content areas. I enjoy watching students think critically and solve problems.
Elementary Math Tutoring
This is similar to my math box above. I really enjoy math and consider it to be my strongest subject. I have loved math as long as I can remember. I love being able to solve problems, and see how students solve them also. I really love how math is being taught now because educators stress that there is always more than one way to get to an answer, and it is perfectly fine that you and your neighbor didn't get the answer the same way.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
As I mentioned in the English box, I have taught at schools where English is the second language so I learned many great skills on how to teach reading and reading comprehension. Being able to read is one thing, where most students struggle is being able to understand and comprehend what they are reading. To me, this is much more important than seeing how fast a student can read.
Writing Tutoring
I have taught writing strategy lessons in my coursework as well as to 4th graders in my student teaching. I enjoy reading what students have to say, and feel that writing is a very powerful and essential tool to be able to survive and excel in toda'ys society.
