Fun Facts
One of my biggest passions in life is music, specifically playing guitar! Personally, one my biggest thrills is performing music live and I do it whenever and wherever I can. Although I am getting older and slower, I play rugby as much as possible in an attempt to relive my "glory days". I am originally from Chicago and love travelling.
About Me
I am a Senior Secondary Education and English double major at Saint Louis University. I have been on the Dean's list for the last two years. Upon graduating, I hope to secure a job teaching high school English in an underserved urban school district. My ultimate goal is to earn a doctorate in English and be a college professor.
My education curriculum has provided me with multiple tutoring opportunities. I did my sophomore year practicum at Shearwater High School, a charter school in urban Saint Louis. During this time, I frequently worked one on one with students, focusing specifically on reading comprehension and composition. I also observed at Saint Louis University High School and assisted students with planning, writing, and revising essays. In addition, for the last two summers I worked as a teachers aid at a private Chicago summer school program and sharpened students' organization and general homework skills.
In grammar school (a "Chicagoism" for elementary school), I dreaded English class. I had great difficulty with grammar conventions and reading comprehension skills. However, once I reached high school I was taught by several exceptional English teachers whose intense passion for English rubbed off on me. As a tutor and a future teacher, I aim to instill this passion in my pupils. I want my students to not only see English as a medium for academic thought, but a powerful tool of self-expression and creativity. My tutoring focus is make sure that my students have a firm grasp of key concepts and that their learning and achievement transcends our sessions.
