Fun Facts

For the past 13 years, I have been playing drums and percussion. Jazz was my first love but I enjoy all types of music. I was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ. I have grown to appreciate the city with its art galleries, bookshops, and coffee houses, there is always something to explore.

About Me

I am currently pursuing my second Bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University. I graduated summa cum laude with my first Bachelor’s which was in psychology. With my second degree, I plan to continue on to graduate school to pursue a teaching career in math in either community college or high school. Before university, I graduated with high distinction at Phoenix Community college.

Experience

During 11th and 12th grade I was a member of the community service club. I volunteered at a middle school in which I tutored and mentored students with Individualized Education Plans (or IEPs) in all subjects and in study skills. As a junior and senior at ASU, I served as a mathematics instructional aide in college algebra, providing both in-class and out-of-class help, as well as grading for the professors. During that time I also started tutoring privately in pre-calculus through calculus.

Approach

In middle and high school I experienced difficulty with math. Unfortunately, this was exacerbated by my teachers’ presentation of math to me as a “know it or don’t” subject. Having progressed from this experience to higher math in college, I know this to be untrue. As such, I empathize with students who are struggling but never let them (or myself) believe they can never learn the material. In so doing, I focus not just on the answer, but on the process of finding it.
