A worthy thing to know about me is that I love listening to music! If I am not at work or in class, I have some type of brilliant music playing! I also love to sing ALL the time! A roommate once told me that I sang in my sleep! Now THAT is a hidden talent!
About Me
I am a freshman at The University of Missouri-Kansas City and could not love it more! I am in the 7-year Med Program and I am majoring in Sociology. Being in the 7-year Med program means that I won’t have to apply to medical school or take the MCAT! And I am SO HAPPY about that! As of now, my current career interest would be an Emergency Medicine Doctor or a Surgeon! That could change with experiences though! I like to keep my options open!
Most of my tutoring experience comes from my high school years. Usually it would be one of my friend’s parents coming to me at the last minute begging to help their child out! I didn’t mind it because it also helped me study! As a junior in high school, an acquaintance brought me two middle school boys that were in dire need of help! I began to help them and discovered that I actually loved teaching them because they truly wanted to learn. My favorite part about my experience is the look on a child’s face when they finally understand a tough subject. It’s very rewarding.
As a kid in elementary and middle school, I did not care. The only thing on my mind was getting home and playing outside. School did not seem relevant to me. One of my teachers realized that I did not care and came up with a solution to the problem. My teacher sat me down with my homework and made it relatable to something I was actually interested in! I remember her sitting me down with my power ranger toys and acting out my math problems. And all of a sudden, IT CAME TO ME! It was always easy after that! My approach is to try and find something that the child is interested in and relate it back to the homework or topic we are studying. If we can get the child interested, learning would be that much easier!
