Fun Facts
I enjoy taking photos and being outdoors. Being in nature has really supported my love of biology and my interest in zoology in high school. I love living in the beautiful northwest because there is always somewhere new to explore. Another love of mine is dancing. I started ballet and jazz in middle school, and I am now involved in Latin dance club at my university.
About Me
As a sophomore nursing major at the portland">University of Portland I aspire to become a nurse practitioner or a nurse specialist in the next five years. I am also on the executive committee for Relay for Life at portland">University of Portland and plan to go into the field of oncology. Nursing students must complete their core requirements before junior year, so I have taken a variety of classes in the last year and a half. I am comfortable with many subjects, but my expertise is in biology, anatomy and physiology.
I currently work as a workshop leader for the introductory cell biology class at UP. As a workshop leader, I meet with a small group of students each week to go over key concepts and reinforce the important points the professor touched on in lecture. With guidance from the professor, we use many hands-on, visual, and auditory techniques to engage students in new ways. In my experience so far, the program has been very successful and I would love to bring these techniques to one-on-one portland">tutoring.
My portland">tutoring approach is based on personalizing lesson plans for each student. After getting to know the student's interests and learning styles, I can make a prediction of what activities suit them best, and then modify the techniques as needed. As a portland">tutor I also strive to hold myself and the student accountable, while also creating an encouraging and understanding learning environment.
