About Me
My major is Liberal Studies- Elementary Teaching, but I also specialize on Middle School Math since I am an AVID Tutor at Mar Vista Academy. I am attending San Diego State University after transferring from Southwestern College. With this big step in my life I can now fulfill my dream, not only becoming a teacher, but also be the mentor/friend to students.
Experience
I worked for Kumon Math and Reading, a private afterschool tutoring.
I also worked for Castle Park Middle as an afterschool tutor , helping students with their Spanish, Science, and Math homework.
My current job is being an AVID Tutor for Mar Vista Academy.
I also have 30-plus hours of volunteer work at an elementary in which I worked with a California Certified School Teacher and tutor some students.
Approach
I would start by introducing myself using a friendly approach then say something about me. Then I would ask the student their name and what is it about the subject that it is troubling them. By this time, my goal was to make the student comfortable with my presence and having me help him. Next, I would ask the student to do a problem how he would normally do it that way I can observe the student's way of thinking or teaching then come up with ways for understanding the concept.
