Fun Facts
I love reading, listening to music (especially Christmas music!), relaxing on the beach, and being around my family and friends. I have a three year old cat named Ralph who I rescued from a store garden center when he was just four weeks old. I feel like I have become a full-time mom to him; he is such a handful! In all aspects of my life I enjoy being very organized, and sometimes am an extreme perfectionist.
About Me
I am currently a junior at maryland/towson">towson-university">maryland/towson">Towson University, studying Family Studies. I started my college career at my local community college, at which I was on the Dean's list for the whole year. I transferred to maryland/towson">Towson and continue to hold a high GPA. Once I graduate, I hope to work in a hospital counseling families and children going through mental illnesses.
In my senior year of high school I was given the opportunity to participate in an internship at a local elementary school. I was assigned a 2nd grade classroom and a mentor teacher to work with. I was able to observe the students and work one-on-one with them. I was also able to plan and teach several lessons! I got very close with many of the students and really felt I had a great impact on them and their education. Also, in my first year of college I was able to observe and work with children in a sixth grade education/maryland/baltimore">special education classroom. This was a very eye-opening and rewarding experience for me. I was able to work with some of these children one-on-one, and gain an understanding and sense of respect for individuals living with varying abilities and disabilities. I was given the chance to help some of these students catch up on their work and better understand the math concepts being taught.
I truly believe that understanding how each individual child learns is the best way to help them understand the topics they are having trouble with. There are so many different kinds of learners out there, and every child needs a specialized plan catered to them. Using various techniques and approaches to teaching is essential. If there is an understanding of how a child learns best, and there is respect between the child and maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutor, then there will be progress made in helping the child grasp any concept.
