About Me
I am currently a freshman attending Quinnipiac University as a double major in mathematics and science/connecticut/new-haven">computer science. I will be enrolling in the 5-year Masters in the Art of Teaching program offered at my school to become certified as a secondary math teacher.I hope someday to even become a college professor.
Over my middle school and high school years I have casually been asked countless times by my peers, and those younger than me, to assist them with schoolwork, more specifically math. I am a summer camp counselor and involved in Scouting, both of which require my intructional skills to educate others on various kinds of material. My greatest connecticut/new-haven">tutoring experience was an Independant Performance Project which I completed my senior year of high school. The goal of this project was to work with a mentor in a field of study which I found interesting. I chose to work with my previous 8th grade mathematics teacher and was considered a "student teacher" over the course of a few months. I would connecticut/new-haven">tutor children on the material if they needed help, assign homework problems, administer and grade quizzes and tests, create lesson plans, and I even taught a few lessons myself.
I am a big believer in learning from past experiences. One cannot fully understand a situation until they have gone throguh it themselves. I hold this same philosophy in connecticut/new-haven">tutoring. I believe the best way for children to learn is by attempting the problems themselves, and if they get stuck, gradually asking what they think comes next. Obviously it is my job to aid the student with their work, however I will not immediately tell them what to do; instead I will try my best to get them to work it through on their own, and find intellectual ways to remember what they have previously demonstrated.
