Fun Facts
I love to read and create. My college roommate often walks in the room and finds that I have the floor covered with one project or another. When I am not creating or studying I tend to curl up on a couch, bench, or couch and read books. I have two sisters that I miss dearly and love to see when I go home.
About Me
I am a Junior at Dallas Baptist University. I am currently studying to be an education major and eventually want to earn a Masters of Special Education. I am very passionate about working with kids. I want to eventually teach 4th grade with a focus on math, along with the inclusion of special education students in the classroom.
I am new to tutoring, as I have never officially tutored before. My first encounter with teaching and tutoring students was seventh grade when I volunteered at my home church as a teacher for evening activities where we worked with students to learn bible verses. In high school I was a mentor for two years to an elementary school after school robotics club. While working at a preschool for a year I was able to help with letter recognition and advanced reading skills of some of the students. I often help my sisters with understanding concepts when I am home.
I have found that as I mentored and when I taught at different levels with different students that not all learning styles are the same. I had to learn my own style of learning early on and this helped me to excel in my studies, which is something that I wish to convey to students. As a tutor, I know that many students like to know they are excelling so I try to work in as many valid compliments and encouraging statements as I can while working to the student's best interest. I see it as my responsibility to guide the student and alter any negative opinions they may have accumulated of the subject or themselves and to create a confidence in them so that they do not become reliant on me or others for answers but can figure out solutions for themselves.
