Fun Facts
One of my favorite things is math! I especially love the theoretical side of mathematics, and how many ways there are to arrive at the solution. I also go running in my spare time; in fact, when I’m not working or studying, you can probably find me in the gym. Right now I work at a restaurant in Kansas City, and it has encouraged my passion for cooking, but someday I hope to work for Google or a gaming company (did I mention I was a gamer?).
About Me
I am a senior level student at University of Missouri Kansas City, double majoring in computer science and mathematics. After high school, I studied painting and art history for two years at the Kansas City Art Institute before transferring to UMKC. This may seem like a drastic change, but I think it makes a lot of sense! I still consider myself an artist, but my media have changed.
While I was a student at the Art Institute, I worked as a tutor in the Writing Lab. I helped any and all students with thesis construction, organization, source integration, formatting, conceptual issues, and anything else that came up! Although no longer formally employed (it was a work-study position at the school), I continue to regularly provide my editing services to several of my friends; they feel confident knowing I have given their work my approval. Other than that, I also try to make myself available to help my friends out with their math, from pre-calculus to discrete structures. I love talking about math!
My tutoring approach focuses on treating each student as an individual. It is important to recognize each student's strengths and weaknesses. I particularly enjoy working with analogies to explain confusing or difficult concepts; it enables me to take advantage of material the student is already comfortable with. I think that everyone has a huge capacity for learning, if only the material is presented the right way.
