Fun Facts
While my humor is dry I have easily inflamed interests. I am a long-time game design geek and a strong believer in gamification techniques in teaching as well as marketing. I also have a slowly growing love for movies and film history.
About Me
I am a recent graduate with a MA in Applied Economics from Georgetown University. My specialties are applied microeconomics and economic measurement. My long term career goals are in consumer data and market research.
I have been tutoring professionally at Georgetown for over a year. I worked with Undergraduate Student Coordinator to identify clients. Many of my students were new transfers who were surprised by the higher math level expected at Georgetown compared to other undergraduate college economics courses. I helped one such student achieve an A- despite initially lacking the necessary calculus. He gained the confidence to join an econometrics course the following semester.
My approach as a tutor is based primarily on two things: a desire to understand the "why" behind a solution and a distaste for memorization. With that in I try to guide the student's understanding to core concepts in the subject and to build up the student's intuition for the material. I want the student to be able identify important pieces of a problem and to understand the logic used to solve it. This way I can make the material more manageable and clear by showing how techniques and ideas often build on one another or repeat with small differences.
