Fun Facts
For 2 years now I have been playing ultimate frisbee at my university. It has been a passion, yet a challenge as well. This past semester I took time off from Santa Clara to study in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I studied the language and the culture, along with teaching 2 of my own English classes.
About Me
I am a junior at Santa Clara university, where I study chemistry and philosophy. Chemistry is beautiful to me, but philosophy keeps my head on straight. To me it is a type of study that teaches you how to make good decisions and determine the best way to live. It fully enriches my life and ends up being a great balance to chemistry.
For the past 15 months I have been teaching or tutoring. My sophomore year I was offered to tutor general chemistry after being recommended by a couple of professors. This past semester I taught basic and intermediate English to underprivileged youth in Buenos Aires, Argentina- speaking mostly in Spanish.
A lot of what tutoring, to me, is creating a fun and open relationship between the student and the tutor. There needs to be a sense of trust so that the student and the teacher can be led into new ways of thinking. It is not a one-way street. My goal is to offer varying perspectives on the subject of difficulty in order to create that "aha" moment that is so crucial to creating a foundation for learning.
