Fun Facts

I love to dance and I believe students definitely need brain and movement or stretch breaks ever 30 minutes to an hour. My favorite subject was math growing up and I currently teach English as a second language to grade 3, 4 and 5 but have also taught high school and math-middle-school/north-carolina/charlotte">middle school math.

About Me

I currently teach English as a Second Language. My ultimate goal is to travel around the world doing so. Another goal of mine is to become proficient in Spanish and learn as many languages as I can.

Experience

I taught 8th grade math last year. I co-taught a 9th grade Algebra class. I currently teach ESL to grades 3, 4 and 5. I've tutored middle and high school math among other subjects for 10 years. I started out working as a charlotte">tutor for grades K-12 at a charlotte">tutoring center.

Approach

My approach is to first see what a student can do so I can see where they are making a mistake or where the gaps in learning lie. From that assessment, I can determine what to teach next. I model, and then have students talk me through multiple problems, and scaffold until they are doing the work independently. Once they can do that, I have them practice independently. I emphasize the value in trying your best feeling good in and of itself, and try to be as enthusiastic as possible!
