Fun Facts

I love languages! I grew up speaking Spanish and learned English upon coming to the States. I'm currently learning Italian and hope to pick up a fourth language in the future. I also love soccer, both watching and playing the sport. I enjoy learning new skills, which has led me to become familiar with DJ-ing and Photoshop and my latest endeavor has been kitesurfing.

About Me

I'm a proud resident of Massachusetts but I'm originally from Peru, where I was born and raised. Currently I am 3rd year Applied Math and Statistics major (with a possible Economics double major) at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University. Upon graduation, I hope to enter the field of finance and get a job in Boston's financial district.

Experience

I've always had a knack for numbers, so throughout high school I always seized the opportunity to help my peers in math. I loved being always to share my love for the subject. Upon coming to maryland/baltimore">Baltimore I was hired on by a local high school as a teacher's assistant. There, I maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutor students at different academic levels in a variety of subjects including math, science and history.

Approach

One of my favorite idioms is "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime." I believe this is directly applicable to teaching. A student should understand how and why he is arriving at an answer, rather than just be given a list of steps on how to get there. I also believe that positive reinforcement and a can-do attitude is necessary when it comes to teaching.

TOEFL Tutoring

The TOEFL is a test to measure a student's fluency in English. I believe that since I've personally had to learn English upon coming to the USA, I can be of great help to the student, not only in educating them on the language, but also on the transition from one language to the other. I think personal experience is key here.
