Fun Facts
Being the third of six children, I have always loved a strong sense of community. I especially enjoy bringing people together by playing popular tunes on the guitar, as well as by doing voice impersonations of famous people. Not surprisingly, my favorite sports are all team ones, such as basketball, football, and soccer. Although I am horrible at it, I love to dance, and hope to one day be proficient in salsa and swing dancing.
About Me
I received my undergraduate degree from UCLA with a degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology with a major GPA of 3.67. While there, I worked 2 years in a lab studying diabetes. After college, I taught middle school science at a private school in Mexico City called Northridge School Mexico. Afterwards, I obtained a master's degree in medical physiology from the Loyola chicago">University of Chicago (GPA 3.86), in preparation for my goal of matriculating into medical school.
Experience
I have extensive experience chicago">tutoring. While a teacher at Northridge School Mexico, I spent numerous hours outside of class meeting with individual students who needed extra help with biology. I also provided science and math chicago">tutoring in elementary to high school level curriculum through private chicago">tutoring academies in southern California. At the undergraduate level, I informally tutored my classmates in general chemistry. While completing my master's degree, I taught Spanish to medical students.
Approach
As a student I often struggled when I did not have personalized attention from my teachers. Therefore, I strive to guide students step-by-step through the thought process of solving a problem. My goal is to have students come to conclusions themselves, without me giving the answer away. Near the end of a session, i will have a student teach the concept back to me, as I believe the ability to teach a concept is proof of mastery. I also will give students the study skills necessary to succeed.
