Fun Facts
I love to run and do yoga. Ironically, I am also addicted to candy! Right now, you can find me constantly munching on orange mint Life Savers. My favorite book series is Harry Potter. I am a devoted Ravenclaw, and had the amazing opportunity to attend the Harry Potter Disney World theme park last spring due to being an international qualifier for a competitive school organization. At Ollivander's Wand Shop, I was the "chosen one" and got to experience a unicorn wand choosing me as its master!
About Me
I am an incoming freshman at New York University and received a full-ride scholarship to further my studies. My ultimate goal is to work for the CIA as a forensics expert, but I would like to intern at prisons and hospital psychiatric units during and after my undergraduate studies. I attended a competitive public high school in Ohio and graduated with a 4.7 GPA. Alongside my rigorous academics, I worked a restaurant job for four years and volunteered over 300 hours in my community.
Experience
I have consistently taken the initiative to help kids excel in both school and life. I founded "Reading to Grow" last summer to give impoverished children books and lessons in their homes. I also have helped abused children with their homework at a local rape crisis center while their mothers attended counseling sessions. I have counseled at various summer learning camps, and have helped my younger sisters (ages 5 and 8) with their schoolwork whenever they have had questions.
Approach
I grew up in government-funded housing, and have seen so many people give up on their schooling. I knew, from a young age, that education was my key to success. Despite all statistics against low-income students, I was offered full scholarships to top schools such as Swarthmore, Amherst, and Emory. My belief is that any child can succeed in school if they have the right amount of passion and motivation. My goal is to find what makes each student excited to learn, and make learning rewarding.

English Tutoring
I have taken advanced English classes since sixth grade and have never received a final grade below an "A". I consider English to be one of my best subjects. I scored a 34 on the English ACT section. Having the ability to write and speak with proper grammar is invaluable when it comes to communicating with others. Strong English skills help significantly when it comes to learning a second language.
Homework Coach Tutoring
I have helped at least 15 children study and complete their homework. I am great at providing strategies for memorization, and giving real world examples for thorough comprehension. Homework does not have to be a dull task if the student sees how it is truly relevant in today's world.
Math Tutoring
I started taking Algebra in seventh grade. I continued taking mathematics courses throughout high school, even after completing the graduation requirements for the subject. The math classes I have taken include: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, Statistics, and Calculus 2. I have never received below an "A" in any of these classes. I scored a 35 on the ACT Mathematics section.
Middle School Math Tutoring
I started taking Algebra in seventh grade. I continued taking mathematics courses throughout high school, even after completing the graduation requirements for the subject. The math classes I have taken include: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, Statistics, and Calculus 2. I have never received below an "A" in any of these classes. I scored a 35 on the ACT Mathematics section.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
Reading is a skill that needs to be developed for both academic use and personal use. I excel in finding the deeper meanings behind literature. Books are a great thing to discuss, and I can help prove its usefulness to students who may ask "what is the point of this?". Regardless of whether it's a textbook, classic novel, or a fantasy series, I will help students find reading books just as pleasurable as watching TV. I scored a 35 on the Reading ACT section.
Writing Tutoring
Writing skills are critical when it comes to college, job, and scholarship applications. Essays may seem like a daunting task, but I will be able to help students make formulating sentences seem more like art instead of a chore. I believe my essays were the strongest aspect on my college applications, and would love to help younger students develop effective writing strategies that could help earn them scholarships later on in their academic careers.
Study Skills Tutoring
Study skills are a vital thing to develop at the elementary school age. School is too often seen as a chore rather than a fun opportunity to expand knowledge. Coming from a background with few resources to help me develop my own study skills, I know that each student can reach their fullest potential in school if they realize how cool school actually is. I can bring forth a fun and supportive attitude to help teach students memorization, comprehension, and time skills.
ACT English Tutoring
I received a 34 on ACT English. My biggest struggle when it came to this standardized test was the small time frame that required a tremendous amount of concentration. There are trends throughout this section that, if noticed, can help with this time struggle and eliminate wrong answers that deduct significant points from the overall score. If I can receive a high mark on this section with major testing anxiety, then so can the student I tutor.
ACT Math Tutoring
I received a 34 on the ACT Mathematics section. This section, in my opinion, is extremely quick-paced with little room for error. I can teach students strategies to remain calm when they don't know how to answer a question, and efficient ways to increase their chances of answering questions correctly. I have a solid background with mathematics, and have taken up to Calculus 2.
Microsoft PowerPoint Tutoring
Microsoft PowerPoint is a tool that many people will use throughout both their school and professional lives. PowerPoints are supposed to draw interest towards the speaker, and highlight the topics of interest. Other than using just theme options, I know a variety of ways to make PowerPoints look professional rather than homemade.
Microsoft Word Tutoring
Microsoft Word offers so many options for the user to take advantage of. At the very least, Word allows students to type documents and research papers. At the most, Word can create wonderful flyers and advertisements. I have won many contests with posters made through Word, and know methods that can turn an okay document into an amazing one.
