Fun Facts
One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is to explore the city of Atlanta. I love going to different festivals (especially ones with food) I enjoy being outdoors and seeing a side of the city that most people do not see. I love to take my children to parks and fun events so that they too can explore the area in which they live.
About Me
I am currently a High School English teacher with a Master's Degree in Secondary Education. My focus is English/Language Arts. I attended kennesaw-state-university">Kennesaw State University for my undergraduate degree in English and completed my M.A.T at Georgia State University.
I have just recently been certified as a gifted educator and am working on getting my education/georgia/atlanta">Special Education endorsement as well. When I am not making lesson plans, grading papers, or playing with my two children, I am most definitely reading.
Experience
As a Kindergarten paraprofessional (2013-2014) I spent many hours a week atlanta">tutoring students in grades 3-5 in the areas of math and reading. Once I began to work on my M.A.T I was in constant contact with Middle and High School students who needed extra help with the ELA subjects and topics. I help my own students with difficult topics before and after school throughout the school year.
Approach
I believe that it is important for students to learn in a way that best suits their style of learning. Because of this, I am a firm believer in getting to know my students before I try to teach them anything. I want them to be comfortable with me and to know that they are in an environment that has their best interests in mind. Once I become familiar with their learning style(s) and preferences, I am able to design a curriculum or plan that works to their individual learning needs.

As a teacher, I am required to expose and train my students on how to study. We practice several different methods in class and I am confident that the various methods I use help my students to become successful learners.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I have taken several courses on teaching reading comprehension through out my collegiate career. In one of the classes, time was spent each week tutoring students in the middle grades level. Each of the courses I took were completed with an A average.
SAT Verbal/Writing Tutoring
During my studies, I have learned about and been exposed to several different methods of teaching vocabulary to students at all levels.
Spanish I Tutoring
In high school, I completed 4 years of Spanish courses. I was in Spanish speaking competitions and also traveled to Nicaragua for a week to put my knowledge to use. I took 3 collegiate level courses of Spanish and finished those classes with A averages.
Homework Coach Tutoring
As a high school and middle school certified teacher, I have ample amount of experience and knowlegde in helping students complete assignments in an orderly and timely fashion. In completing homework, I am fully qualified to help students tackle assignments that need to be completed in a manner that helps them be successful.
Writing Tutoring
Through out my collegiate career, I have taken several courses that have exposed me to and taught me about writing in the classroom environment. I am a firm believer in learning how to write properly for different settings because I know how important this skill is in the real world. I have taken classes on writing styles, writing skills and the mechanics of writing. Each of these classes were completed with an B+ or more average.
