Fun Facts

I am from brentwood">Brentwood, TN. I love singing, dancing, and hanging out with my friends! I am energetic and throw myself into whatever silly task I have come up with, whether I am good at it or not!

About Me

I am a Senior at Rhodes College, double majoring in Elementary Education and Urban Studies (with a minor in Africana Studies). I plan on getting a master's in Education and staying here in Memphis, TN to teach!

Experience

I have been interning at Memphis College Prep for a year now, and I am continuing this in the fall. During the summer, I taught a summer reading class at Mt. Pisgah. In addition, I worked at Christ Methodist Day School after-care program for two years.

Approach

During my school experience it has not always been easy. I went to a private high school, where every student was smart and often students were talked about or looked down on for not excelling in class. Due to this, I was embarrassed to need memphis">tutoring, but my memphis">tutor made me feel much better and secure in myself! This shaped my goal/approach. I want the students to feel confident in themselves as well as the material being studied.

English Tutoring

During my high school career I was in honors or AP English, making A's or B's. Throughout my experience at Memphis College Prep, students have often needed extra assistance in English; whether that be reading comprehension, writing, spelling, or punctuation etc. It was a learning experience for me to find different ways to aid each specific student as well as the class as a whole. In teaching the reading class this past summer, I was able to work on my approach and bring the students to the reading level they needed to be on!

Homework Coach Tutoring

Juggling homework and extracurricular activities can be very difficult for students. It is important for young students to work on study skills as well as time management before entering into High School, as it is easy for students to quickly fall behind. This is something that I learned the hard way, especially in going to college. Due to this, I am passionate about preparing students for the change in work load as they move into high school and, further, into college.

Spanish Tutoring

In high school, I was in honors Spanish. This gave me the ability to test out of my language requirements in college. The Spanish classes I did take; however, I received A's in. Furthermore, I headed a study group throughout both semesters for the class to work together on our different problem points!

Elementary Math Tutoring

As an Elementary Education major is a requirement for me to be proficient in elementary math. In addition, during math rotations at Memphis College Prep, I teach one of the stations.

Science Tutoring

At Memphis College Prep, I am very involved in Science time! During the spring, the class did a science fair project and I was in charge of assigning the topics to each student, as well as proofing them before the fair. It was something I enjoyed very much!

Social Studies Tutoring

As an Africana Studies minor, history/social studies is of great importance. In addition, I take many history and social classes through my major in Urban Studies. I mention these things to say that I know a lot about history!
