About Me
I grew up in Redlands, CA until I was ten and then moved to the high desert area with my family. I am a first generation college student, so I understand how important sacramento">tutoring is for a student's success. I also had a speech impairment when I was young and therefore am patient with students as I understand learning is a process. I am the oldest of three children and have always taken my position as a role model seriously. I love to learn and teach others to love it too!
As a Writing sacramento">Tutor I worked with students, ranging from 18-25 years in age, individually every day. I also helped graduate students in the Geographic Information Systems program at the redlands">University of Redlands write their thesis papers. In my position as a Peer Advisor I worked with a group of 17 Freshmen students by advising them on courses and academic matters. I also led a class on study skills as well as created and implemented a seminar called “Surviving College Writing,” for Freshmen students. Finally, I volunteered in an eleventh grade American Literature Classroom for a year and helped students develop their writing and grammar skills.
In my two year position as a Writing sacramento">Tutor for the redlands">University of Redlands I developed many skills that make me an effective sacramento">tutor. I am patient because I know that learning can be a difficult process. sacramento">Tutors should work to help their students discover their strengths and drive. Through encouragement, positive feedback, and constructive criticism, I seek to help students realize their academic abilities. As much as possible, I have the student hold the writing utensil instead of myself to encourage them to own their work. At the start of each sacramento">tutoring session I always to make sure to talk to the student about how they feel about their assignment or subject and check in throughout the session to make sure the student is comprehending. I also work to make sure I provide clear explanations and cite a source for the information I give, such as grammar suggestions
