Fun Facts
I am Russian speaking first generation American. I was born in 1994 in Germany on refugee status after my family fled the Soviet Union. I value all cultures and views of life and am comfortable working with anyone. I enjoy leading a healthy lifestyle by eating clean, staying active and being consciously aware of my role in society.
About Me
I am a senior at houston">the houston">University of Houston majoring in Sociology, minoring in Biology, and learning Data Science skills. I will either work as a consultant for a non-profit specializing in social efforts or join the Peace Corps after I graduate. After those experiences I plane to attend graduate school or Medical School.
Experience
My first memories houston">tutoring involve the younger students at a Russian School I was a part of in Austin growing up. After that I was a volunteer houston">tutor after school in high school to younger high school students. Then in college I began houston">tutoring formally at the Writing Center as a writing consultant and to school aged kids in math and science.
Approach
I remember being in ESL classes as an elementary aged student and being confused as to why I was there and why I didn't read as quickly as my peers. Now I am always reading nonfiction books outside of my college courses for fun. I strongly believe that some students just need a lot more practice with a patient instructor to overcome their challenges. I do not believe in the banking concept of education; I impose the problem-posing method of education where I work with the students to learn.

Sociology Tutoring
I am majoring in Sociology and excel at sociological concepts and theories. I am currently taking Social Theory and Social Statistics courses and am confident in helping students understand the sociological imagination.

I am minoring in biology and am currently taking a Genetics course. I have tutored students in Biology before I even took my intro courses because I had taken AP Biology in high school.

I was a computer science major in college my sophomore year and took C, Java, and computer architecture. I also participated in a Ruby on Rails weekend workshop and am now learning R programming as well as how to use GitHub for my Data Science classes.

I am passionate about learning about the role of government in our society and am well versed in this subject from personal experience and from the college level courses I took.
