Fun Facts
Throughout most of my childhood I was a competitive gymnast. I also played many other sports including soccer, basketball, baseball, and swimming. I am the youngest of two, not including my mom's dog Lily. I enjoy music and bring out my clarinet and piano every now and then to jam. I have lived in the Southwest my entire life. I spent one summer building a clinic in Peru and can't wait to return for a visit, and hopefully work at the clinic, one day.
About Me
May 9, 2015 I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, along with a minor in honors interdisciplinary studies. I was on the dean's list all four years of college and graduated with a G.P.A. of 3.81. I am currently in the process of applying to medical school. Ultimately, I want to become a pediatrician and work in rural medicine.
I was granted the UNM scholars scholarship, along with a Rotary scholarship for outstanding community service to fund my education. I held the position of Project Director for UNM-Nourish International for two years, as well as the position of Project Leader for our 2015 project in Peru. I also held the position of director of affordable higher education for the NM Public Interest Research Group.
Experience
As a member of the Math, Engineering, & Science Achievements club in high school I was granted the opportunity to begin albuquerque">tutoring peers for scholarship money. This made me realize how much I enjoy teaching and helping classmates when they are struggling. My final year of college I discovered and received the job of Peer Learning Facilitator at my college. I taught both general and organic chemistry. I also assisted with homework as a Big Sister in the Big Brother Big Sisters program.
Approach
I have always been a decent student, but not until college did I realize how lazy of a student I was. My first two years I had trouble keeping up with the workload because I hadn't found a successful study technique. As soon as I found a study technique that worked for me my schoolwork became much more manageable and my grades reflected. I find it incredibly important to not only help students understand the material, but to find the way they learn and study most effectively.
