Fun Facts
My two favorite passions or hobbies in the world are History (reading and learning about it) and gaming. Most of the time you will find my ensconced in a history book or diving into a new or old game to have fun. I love learning about any time period in history and play any type of game on the PC.
About Me
I am an incoming junior level transfer at UCLA. At the community college I went to, I was on the Dean's List for my second year and the Honor's List my first year at Mount San Antonio College. When I graduate from UCLA with a BA in History, I plan on getting my teaching credentials at a CSU and perhaps another BA in political science. My ultimate goal is to become a teacher at a local high school.
Experience
I had tons of informal tutoring experience during high school and college primarily in history classes and SAT verbal when I was taking prep classes in an after school program. I've also done about a semester and a half worth of interning with one of my college history professors when I was taking classes at Mt. SAC. My professional tutoring/teaching experience consists of me having been hired to teach a small Algebra I class in an after school program in Arcadia and an ELD II class in Alhambra.
Approach
I have a more laid back, relaxed teaching approach which allows me to forge some personal relationships with the people I taught (talking about things that happened in their day or talking about games) and in turn makes the learning process quicker and less tiring. As a tutor, I abhor having whomever I'm teaching grind through the materials and would much rather have 5 or 10 minute breaks sprinkled in between half hour tutoring periods. In the end I believe this approach generates mutual respect.

History
Algebra Tutoring
I not only informally tutored some college students in Algebra but also professionally taught a small Algebra I class at an after school program in Arcadia. I have a plethora of self made worksheets, quizzes, and even tests I can use to guarantee an improvement in anyone's grade for Algebra I.
Algebra II Tutoring
Many of the worksheets I created for the Algebra I class I taught have many Algebra II concepts embedded in them. I can also tailor make more worksheets or quizzes or tests to a specific student's needs.
AP History Tutoring
My love for history caused me to constantly borrow books at my local libraries and voraciously read through them daily. I actually learned a lot of what my AP history class (specifically AP US) was going to teach even before I got into the class.
Geometry Tutoring
I did the best in my 9th grade Geometry class. In fact I did so well that when my teacher left for a family emergency, he entrusted me with explaining how each homework, quiz, and test problem were to be solved in his absence.
Government Tutoring
My experience in taking AP Gov during high school and the Poly Sci I course in college has given me a deep understanding of how the US government operates and thus what a standard government course would go over.
Pre Algebra Tutoring
My expertise in teaching Algebra I, both professionally and informally, easily translates into success in tutoring Pre-Algebra. I also have experience in being patient with students at this math level.
SAT Math Tutoring
I confess to not being the greatest at SAT math and I do not want to lie to anyone just for some money. However, my heavily logical approach in the SAT verbal sections can translate into success for SAT math. I consistently scored in the top 8 in the 20 or so students in my prep class during high school.
SAT Verbal/Writing Tutoring
I specifically perform the best in SAT verbal (780 being the highest official score I got). I can tutor in the more conventional method (identifying the type of problem in the vocab section) and then use my own style (more efficient in my point of view) on the reading sections which led me to score 780 and consistently be the best performer in verbal when I was taking prep classes.
Math Tutoring
I personally taught a small Algebra I class of about eight students at an after school program a few months back. I knew all the material and was also tasked with creating several unique worksheets for review purposes and creating quizzes and tests to ensure my students absorbed the material that was taught each week.
Middle School Math Tutoring
I only had one minor hurdle in the beginning of learning Algebra I during middle school. After conquering that small bump in the road, I excelled at my remaining classes.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I was always a voracious reader and even got an award in elementary school for reading the most books in the school. My ability to dissect the meaning of an author's words in a book or novel or article has never waned and carried on through high school.
Elementary Math Tutoring
My excellent performance in math held up from elementary school all the way up to college level calculus. Plus my professional experience in teaching math to students at an after school program helped me gain the patience needed to convey the lesson materials to younger kids.
Social Studies Tutoring
I had plenty of experience tutoring lower level students in various courses. My expertise in history would guarantee success in boosting any student in an elementary history class.
PSAT Tutoring
I can tutor best in the verbal and math sections. My verbal scores for the SAT and PSAT have always been the highest of the three and my writing the lowest.
Chinese Tutoring
I consistently scored at least an A- in every grade report from my Chinese 1 and Chinese 2 class. Also I scored an A in every quiz and test from both those classes.
College Algebra Tutoring
Throughout my academic career I've always done well in mathematics up until calculus. I had begun to informally help my classmates during my two years in Mt.SAC who were in math classes lower than calculus prepare for quizzes or tests.
English Tutoring
I performed well in all the English courses I took during my last two years in high school (maintaining a b+ minimum) and my two years in college. The only time I faltered was during a winter course in college where I fell sick with the flu for an entire week and missed two essaies and a test which took off about a third of my total grade. I managed to rally during the last few days and bring my grade back up to a C+.
History Tutoring
History has always been and always will be my favorite subject to learn about. I never grow tired to taking new and interesting history classes about any time period. This is most reflected in my college transcript where I've taken all the history courses from Hist1 (us history) to Hist 11 (modern asia).
Political Science Tutoring
Even when I had a tight and demanding schedule for my first semester of college, I never stopped trying to perform my best in all my classes. This holds especially true for my poly sci courses where in hindsight I adopted a lot of the methods of teaching my professor had.
Study Skills Tutoring
I never really had much trouble successfully studying for my tests besides college level calculus. A lot of this has to come from the effective studying method my AP US history teacher in high school taught me. The magical formula was 20-30 minutes of concentrated studying followed by a 5-10 minute break.
Writing Tutoring
My best writing comes in argumentative essaies when my logical style of arguing comes handy. I love attempting to convince others that my perspective of an issue is the correct one.
