Fun Facts
I have lived and traveled all over the world, including more than 15 foreign countries on 4 continents. I love to explore new places and cultures (and try the food!). I'm an avid horseback rider, and my family owns a ranch with 13 horses. I love animals of all kinds and hope to one day start a farm of my own, taking the Noah's Ark approach gathering 2 of everything :)
About Me
I'm originally from the Sallisaw, Oklahoma area, graduated 2nd in my class, and was awarded the Chancellor's Leadership Council Scholarship, which was the University's premiere academic based scholarship at the time. I went on to get a B.S. in Biology from the University of Arkansas, where I was heavily involved in the Pre-Med and Community Service Club. Currently I am enrolled at UNT Heath Science Center (the medical school branch), getting my Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental and Occupational Health. I am attending as a full-time student with less than a year to completion. I currently hold a 3.6 GPA. I am still heavily involved in community affairs, and aspire to work as an environmental toxicologist when I graduate in May 2014.
I have been tutoring on a volunteer basis in after-school programs for nearly 10 years. I have tutored in every K-12 subject, except foreign languages. Naturally I am most comfortable and knowledgeable about the sciences, but I have am a decorated writer and specialize in wring and essay construction skills. After college I took a job at a private school in South Korea as head of the science department. I also taught Pre-Algebra, Biology, Earth Science, Physical Science, and ran an after-school elementary reading club. I've enjoyed my time and travels overseas, but I am happy to be back in the U.S. with my family and earning my Masters. Both have truly been a couple of my most rewarding experiences.
I have always been a proponent of tutoring because I've seen the incredible change that can come in a student from individualized learning. Having worked as a full-time teacher, I can tell you that it is very difficult to convey information in an effective way to a room full of 30 kids who all differ in their learning styles. I have found that some of my worst classroom students turn out to be among the brightest after receiving one-on-one attention. Therefore, my goal in tutoring each student is to assess their
