Fun Facts
I have the wanderlust bug and I travel every chance I get. Everywhere I go I always bring a book, sometime two just incase. To relax, I love to garden and cook and combine the two whenever possible. I'm not a very big sports fan, but I love to play card games of all sorts, from go-fish to hearts.
About Me
I am an International Political Economy major and a Japanese minor studying at University of Puget sound. I'm in the honors program and am the co-president of a letter writing club on campus, as well as a member of various other clubs. When I graduate later this year I hope to spend a year teaching English in Japan. Ultimately, I would love to become either a teacher or a social worker so I can help children succeed.
Experience
This will be my fourth year volunteering for the Read2Me program here in Tacoma, a program designed to help 1st-3rd graders improve their reading skills and comprehension, and last year I began volunteering as a mentor for the Boys and Girls club.
Approach
I feel that every child is inherently brilliant has the potential to be a wonderful student. However, some children need extra guidance, attention, and care in order to help them realize what they can achieve and how they can achieve it. My goal as a tutor is to be able to listen to the student to understand what they need from me to be as successful as they can in whatever they set their minds to.

AP English Tutoring
I have taken two AP English classes, nonfiction and fiction, and got fours on both of the tests. I am also a voracious reader of literature and loved discussing all of the nuances and meanings behind the great works.
Homework Coach Tutoring
After many years of trial and error and some independent research, I've come up with several effective and efficient ways to both schedule and time manage. These include both written lists and visual assistance, so they can be easily catered to the student's learning style.
Astronomy Tutoring
I have always been fascinated by the sky and stars. To supplement my own independent research in the topic of astronomy, I also have taken a history of physics course, which covered the history of astronomy and our slow but steady discovery of the mysteries of light and the universe, and am currently taking an astronomy course.
Economics Tutoring
I took AP economy in high school, and have taken several economic courses in college including econ 271, and several courses that incorporate the basic concepts of economics into the broader schemes of politics and sociology.
English Tutoring
Every semester I take an English course. So far I've taken creative writing, poetry, and several literature courses that look different genres of writing, including contemporary irrealist novels and the hero's journey home.
Literature Tutoring
I have taken several literature courses, including A Hero's journey home, Autobiographies through the ages, How to write literature, and Contemporary Irrealism in Novels by Ethnic American Authors. In addition, I enjoy reading and analyzing literature in my spare time.
Micro-Economics Tutoring
I have taken a micro economics course and have taken several subsequent courses that put the concepts learned in micro-economics in context with broader social and political issues.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I am in the honors program, which has two seminars at the beginning of freshman year designed to hone a student's ability to read dense or dated text and be able to comprehend it. Since taking those classes, I have taken multiple courses which puts the techniques I learned in these courses to practice.
Study Skills Tutoring
Being a full time student and part time employee, all while having to keep my GPA up for my scholarships means that I have had to hone my studying skills to be the most time efficient, yet the most effective while taking the test or quiz.
