Fun Facts
One thing I love is Roller Derby! I love roller skating and the community that comes along with playing that sport. I am the oldest of three, with both a younger brother and a younger sister. I am from Santa Cruz, CA where I lived with my family, my two cats, my puppy, and my six chickens.
About Me
After graduating as Valedictorian of my High School earlier this year, I moved to Tacoma to attend the University of Puget Sound in the Honors Program. Academically, I am planning on double majoring in Political Science and Spanish. My goal is to go to Law school and be able to work with families and youth who speak Spanish as their primary language.
Experience
For three years in High School I worked as a Spanish tutor for elementary school students. I was a part of a dual immersion program and was working with families from that same program. I worked on everything from learning the alphabet to learning how to read and write complex sentences and stories. I also became a math tutor for one of those students and worked on second and third grade level math skills.
Approach
As a student I find that I learn better by doing rather than listening. With math I love to bring in tactile manipulatives to better understand complex concepts. With languages I find that people learn better when they are having fun. I like to balance my tutoring sessions with some reading and writing and some fun games. Also, I feel like it is not only my responsibility to help students reach the correct answer, but to teach them what processes to follow to be able to succeed on their own.

Freshman year I also took the AP Spanish Test and received a 5, the highest score you can earn. Sophomore and Junior year I was a teacher's assistant for the Spanish for Spanish Speakers classes. I am a double major, one of my majors being Spanish. I have tutored Spanish for elementary school students in the dual immersion program for 3 years.
Study Skills Tutoring
As Valedictorian of my high school, I had to really hone my study skills to be successful in high school. I have worked with many different binder systems, practiced time management, and created my own set of skills for managing my work and organizing it in such a way that I can easily study and be prepared for my tests. I work with programs such as quizlet and other online resources, as well as more traditional methods such as flashcards.
