Fun Facts

I love foreign languages and everything related to science, especially nutrition and wellness. I am an avid gardener, cook and horticulture enthusiast. I studied abroad for one year in Costa Rica and have traveled throughout most of Central America.

About Me

I recently graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Ph.D. program in human nutrition. I was hired by Abbott Nutrition, a healthcare company in Columbus OH, and I work to support the pediatric and adult business from a scientific perspective. My goal is to integrate teaching into my career that focuses primarily on applying nutrition principles to improve the health and well being of people.

Experience

I have taught as a teaching assistant in undergraduate courses at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 2012-2015. In addition, I mentored a group of high-school students in a Research Apprenticeship Program sponsored by Pepsico in 2013. As a high school student, I tutored and mentored an elementary school student from 2003-2007.

Approach

Working with each student is a unique experience. First, I aim to understand the difficulties the student is having with the material and also understand what they do know. Then, I work will the student towards filling the gaps. Applying Ron Clark’s Essential 55, I promote an interactive environment by engaging the student. Because each student comes from a unique background, I work to identify teaching approaches that resonate with the student.
