Fun Facts
During my free time I spend a lot of my time reading. I enjoy reading and collecting classic literature as well as more recently published books. When I do venture outside I enjoy playing most sports, especially soccer which I played at the varsity level in high school. I also enjoy martial arts (I was a martial arts instructor for two years!)
About Me
I will be graduate in May with a Bachelor's degree in Physics with a Math minor. For three years, I was a triple major in Physics, Math, and Philosophy, but during the middle of my Junior year I decided that I wanted to devote my life to medical research, specifically autism, and dropped the other two majors so that I could take Biology and Chemistry classes to help me get into a PhD program in Neuroscience. In the fall, I will begin my studies at the Baylor College of Medicine.
I began dallas">tutoring at my college (Hartwick College) at the beginning of the fall semester of my Sophomore year. Since then I have tutored a total of around 50 students in various classes including: precalculus, calculus I, II, and III, differential equations, algebra-based physics I and II, calculus-based physics I and II, general chemistry I and II, and astronomy.
I believe that the best way for students to learn is through repetitive practice problems. The method I typically employ when a student is learning a new topic or reviewing an old one is going over the problem together, making sure the student understands every step, and then letting them go through a similar problem alone until they get it correct (after assisting them with each incorrect one). Then at the end of that session or the beginning of the next I typically have them solve one of each type of problem.
Sample Lesson Plan:
1) Updates on student's progress, including homework assignments and grades (5 min)
2) Review of previous topics and objectives for current session (5 min)
3) dallas">Tutoring Begins! (45 min)
a) Demonstration of each new topic
b) Practice problems we work on together
c) At least one problem must be completed alone before moving on to the next topic
d) After all topics are covered, a mini quiz is administered containing one problem from each topic, including a question from the previous session
4) Student provides review of material covered and is provided with feedback on progress (5 min)
