Fun Facts

Something interesting about me is my ability to be confident and comfortable in most situations. Keeping a level head and thinking rationally through problems is a skill that can be taught and is very helpful in academic along with personal development. This plays into my fun facts, I was a football player in college. I played for a small school and loved it. I still enjoy watching and learning the game.

About Me

I am a Chemistry Ph.D. student at the University of Utah with a 3.9 GPA. I have spent 5 semesters teaching Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry. In general, I enjoy teaching as it allows me to see someone develop with my help which is a rewarding feeling. The research in my chemistry Ph.D. focuses on alternative energy sources with a focus on catalytic carbon dioxide (CO2) transformation. I would love to help students learn more about this. As an undergraduate, I majored in Chemistry with a Minor in Math.

Experience

As an undergraduate, I had a great deal of experience in tutoring students in general chemistry and organic chemistry. This involved tutoring peers as well as those that needed help in our university tutoring center. As a graduate student, I have been a teaching assistant where my main job function is to help students learn.

Approach

My approach is one of patience and understanding. I believe that no two students learn the same way and it is up to the instructor to work with the student to help identify the best ways for that student to learn. Tutoring is a unique opportunity for the student to spend one on one time with an instructor that can help the student identify their preferred learning style. Once we identify their learning style, learning will become easier and the goal of becoming self-sufficient will be in reach.
