Fun Facts
I grew up living with my grandmother who is from Trinidad, and she loved to cook. I remember always standing beside her in the kitchen during the holidays watching her make delicious West Indian foods. Helping her chop vegetables and mix ingredients for her famous pastries set the foundation for my love of cooking. Now, I love cooking for my family and friends. Cooking for others is the way that I express my love for people.
About Me
I am a first year graduate student at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. I am currently working on my Master of English degree in English Literature. I am also the Co-Treasurer for the English Graduate Student Association. After I finish my Master's degree, intend to pursue a PhD in English in order to become an English professor.
Experience
During my high school years, I took advanced classes like AP Calculus and AP English and I often tutored my peers who fell behind. Also, in college, I had many opportunities to edit research papers and tutor my peers in Algebra and Statistics. In addition, working at a daycare during my undergraduate studies gave me the opportunity to help School Aged students with their homework and help them in areas in which they struggled.
Approach
I have always possessed an extraordinary passion for education. Being labeled gifted and talented since the second grade allowed me to grow in ways that motivated me to help those who were not able to grasp concepts as quickly as I could. I learned early on that every student is gifted, but educators must learn to tailor their teaching methods to meet each student's need. The student should take the lead and show me their methods of coming up with certain answers first, so I can better help.
