About Me
I graduated from Dearborn High School in 2009 and have recently graduated from wayne-state-university">Wayne State University. I will be starting medical school in August at oakland-university">Oakland University William Beaumont Medical School. I have a great passion for the science and medical field. I conducted inorganic chemistry research for a year at Wayne State and am hoping to have my work published soon once my report is confirmed by my advisor. I have volunteered at Karmanos Cancer Institute, Cass Clinic, and the Ronald Mcdonald house during my time at Wayne State. I also worked at a restaurant for three years when I first started college.
I have been a detroit">tutor at the academic success center at Wayne State for two years, detroit">tutoring math and chemistry courses. This experience involved mostly 1-2 hour, one-on-one detroit">tutoring appointments.I have also been detroit">tutoring math and chemistry at Schoolcraft College for two months. This consisted more of group detroit">tutoring sessions, where there were many students present for various subjects.
When working with students it is important to encourage student involvement during the session. It is counterproductive to just lecture the course material as the student's teacher does because the reason the student is seeking a detroit">tutor is due to having trouble with this method. A detroit">tutor should initially ask the student if he/she has any specific questions about the course material. These questions should be answered to the best of the detroit">tutor's ability and then in order to ensure that progress has been made, the detroit">tutor should ask the student questions about the concepts that were just explained. This series of questioning should continue throughout the entire session. The key to being a great detroit">tutor is to have patience with the students and to avoid indicating any signs of frustration when the student is not comprehending the material. A student is best able to learn when he/she is relaxed and confident and this is only possible when the detroit">tutor is relaxed and confident. This then relates to another important quality for a detroit">tutor, which is that the detroit">tutor should be knowledgable about the subject matter in order to be able to provide in-depth explanations about the material, which will exemplify the confident image of the detroit">tutor.
