Fun Facts

I'm one of the few International Studies Major / Music Minors on campus - I have been playing the acoustic guitar since I was in high school. I play using a solo acoustic percussive fingerstyle technique. My hobbies include reading, drawing (digital art), and learning Chinese. I love teaching, and hope to travel to Taiwan my senior year in college on a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. I love watching basketball, reading, and helping others.

About Me

I like teaching, working with students, and helping high achievers apply for scholarships. I work at my American University's Office of Merit Awards, where I work in an environment that emphasizes academic excellence and leadership. I prefer teaching students that want to learn, are intelligent, and are willing to put in the effort to improve. I would prefer teaching in an individual setting as a washington-dc">tutor.

My parents own an after school in California, and I have worked as a student teacher for over four years during high school. The classes I taught mainly involved leading elementary-middle school students on critical reading and writing classes. However, I often tutored advanced students in middle school or high school in English (reading and writing) and History. In college, I spent a year teaching students essay-writing via Skype. I am familiar with online teaching and grading.

My washington-dc">tutoring approach depends on the class size, the students' willingness to learn, and the subject I'm teaching. When the class size is small (1-3 students), I have more time to focus on each student individually; as a result, I'm much more methodological in my teaching approach, and pay extra attention to whether or not I feel the student has learned and will remember the lesson.

In larger classes, I try to teach broader lessons based on the median learning curve of the class. For the students I feel require extra attention, I try to approach them carefully about extra work. I am willing to stay after hours if it means a student learns what I am teaching.

I consider myself a patient, clear, and friendly teacher or washington-dc">tutor. While I'm not the most energetic and outgoing, my students have always enjoyed my presence in class.
