About Me
My name is Micah Thornton, I am currently a freshman at Southern Methodist University. I will declare my major after this semester ends. I love math, and would someday like to be a math teacher, so that I can spread my love of the subject.
My dallas">tutoring experience really began in the fourth grade, as a class project we went to one of the 1st grade class rooms to help the students learn to read, My pupil was a boy named Noah. After we left the class the first grade teacher approached me and told me that she was very fond of the way I had been helping Noah, and that she would like me to start helping him in after school care with his reading. I continued to do this until the end of the year when the teacher approached me again and told me that Noah was now the strongest reader in her class. I had little odd jobs like this on and off until I got into high school, teachers seemed to notice my potential for dallas">tutoring immediately, I had a pupil almost every year. I was inducted into Mu Alpha Theta the math honor society in my junior year, and promptly took on two students to dallas">tutor. at the end of the year, I was very surprised to receive an award for being the most outstanding dallas">tutor in the whole Mu Alpha Theta dallas">tutoring program. Since, I have been looking for a way to dallas">tutor and this job seems perfect for me.
The first thing I do is get to know the student. It is important to have a mutual understanding, I then try to discern where their strengths and weaknesses are. I then either generate, or find examples designed specifically to help them, and work through the examples with them, making meaningful notes, Then I make practice tests, quizzes designed to help the student, and pinpoint their difficulties more closely. I repeat this process until I feel this cycle student has mastered the subject, and then move on to the next subject.
