About Me
I graduated from Southern Methodist University in 2011 with a BA in Political Science. I have always had a passion for education and a deep love of learning. I plan to pursue an academic career and ultimately become a professor. I care deeply about helping students succeed by cultivating their own academic strengths. I believe that every student has the potential for great things in life and that academic success is the key to future success in every other domain.
I have been a tutor at SMU's Learning Enhancement Center for over three years. I work with students at all points in their college career and of all backgrounds, including ESL and student-athletes. I specialize in writing, including developmental writing and ESL as well as advanced writing and research. Additionally, I tutor subjects in social sciences and humanities including history, political science, philosophy, religion, sociology, and literature. I also have experience tutoring middle and high school students one-on-one in SAT and ACT prep, writing, study skills, English, and History. Finally, I also substitute teach grades 7-9 in humanities.
I always start by assessing the needs of the student, and I explain every new concept and idea from the ground up, in depth, and from multiple perspectives. My goal in tutoring is to coach students to find strengths in themselves and learn skills applicable beyond the individual class or assignment. Much of social sciences, and humanities is about learning how to think about and engage with ideas in a critical way; writing is about expressing and communicating these thoughts in coherent way.
