Fun Facts

I have the cutest little 3lb Yorkie named Bella! She has taught me quite a lot about patience and caring for others in the two years since I had gotten her. I was born and raised in Hawaii and have been living in Chicago for the past 11 years; I prefer the beach to snow any day! My favorite foods are sushi and pizza...but not at the same time. I spend many weekends volunteering at various 5ks, marathons, and other racing events throughout the city.

About Me

I have recently received my Associates in Arts from City Colleges of Chicago with a 3.94 gpa. I am also honored to be a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Currently I am a junior at Northeastern Illinois University hoping to major in education/illinois/chicago">Special Education in the spring. My goal is to become an elementary school education/illinois/chicago">Special Education teacher. I have discovered my passion for helping those with special needs earlier this year and strive to work towards making a difference in their lives.

Experience

Earlier this year I began volunteering at Gigi’s Playhouse, an organization that specializes in offering programs and classes to children and adults with Down syndrome. I had the pleasure of volunteering as a literacy tutor in which I tutored a ten year-old girl with Down syndrome on reading skills and comprehension. The changes in her reading abilities from the start of the tutoring season until the end was remarkable. I look forward to new and like opportunities that Frog Tutoring has to offer

Approach

Learning a new subject can be difficult, especially if they are subjects you are not interested or find difficult to comprehend. My approach to learning is to make it fun and interesting. Every individual learns differently so it is important to tailor the tutoring to the individual’s interest, skills, and abilities. No two individuals are alike, therefore no two sessions should be alike. I also have an interest in working with those with special needs.
