Fun Facts
I am a people-person. I love listening to people, talking with people, playing board games, sharing stories and discussing current events or literature. I am happiest when I am with my wonderful family or spending time with friends. I like to try new things as I get really tired of the "same-old same-old." When I'm by myself, I like reading, writing, cleaning and cooking.
About Me
I am a senior journalism major at Seattle University. My current GPA is 3.68/4.0. I was on the dean's list my first quarter here, received all A's in my last term, and hope to be back on the dean's by winter of this year. I enjoy working with children and educating young minds, so I hope to go to grad school after this year and work on a master's degree which will allow me to teach English, language arts, or a literature class.
Experience
I have been casually tutoring middle school and high school aged kids for about six years now. Most of my tutoring has been with levels one and two Spanish, some algebra and writing. My favorite thing to do with papers is edit them, and plenty of my peers came to me during the college application process while we were in high school. As VP of Community Service for Tau Sigma, National Transfer Student Honors Society, I work with other organizations on my campus to volunteer at the local schools.
Approach
I had math and science tutors for all four years of high school. My biggest struggle was with geometry and chemistry, and my tutors made all the difference. I especially learned best from tutors that were engaging with me and knew how to explain concepts in a way that my teachers could not. As a tutor, I will create a welcoming and judgement-free atmosphere that encourages students to ask questions and feel confident.

Spanish I Tutoring
I took eight years of Spanish before college, and two more years of Spanish in college. My mom's family is Puerto Rican, so the language is in my blood. I learned really quickly and continue to practice the language. I speak fluently in the present tense and can write with grammatical correctness in all other tenses.
Math Tutoring
Algebra was my favorite subject in middle school. I picked up algebra like it was my first language, and never had any problems with homework or tests. I was also able to help my cousin two years later when he started middle school, and his marks improved significantly after a few study sessions with me.
Study Skills Tutoring
In my freshman year of college, I took an Anatomy and Physiology course. This was by far the most difficult class I had ever taken. I failed it the first time, but was determined to take it again and pass. I learned a lot about personal study skills, and was able to share that with my roommates who were in the same class. I received a B in that class, as did my roommates.

English Tutoring
I am currently enrolled in a business communications class. The first two chapters cover basic English composition, like types of sentences, parts of speech and sentence structure. Going through this class is all review to me, but taking it has made the subject fresh. I am confident that I will receive an A in this class.

Writing Tutoring
In college, I took two English courses (levels one and two) in which we had to write persuasive essays, narratives and research papers. I received A's in both classes. I also took an AP style class where we were graded in our ability to write with perfect grammar rules, write news stories on deadline, proof-read our peers' papers and take an AP Style test. I received an A in that class. I have taken many other journalism classes since, all of which involved writing blog posts, papers, speeches essays, op-eds and editorials. Of these six classes, I received mostly A's with two B's.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

Religion Tutoring
I went to a Catholic school for nine years - elementary and middle school. My high school was a Jesuit institution, and my current university is a Jesuit institution. I have taken a variety of Theology courses, and know a lot about Christianity and Catholicism from required classes and personal experiences.
Microsoft Word Tutoring
As a journalism major, most of my work is done on Microsoft Word. My assignments are all done on Word, and I also create handouts for new employees at work using Word. I am very familiar with all of the tools and applications of the software.
Networking Tutoring
As a journalism major, networking is a very big part of establishing connections. I recently visited professors at Metro State University in Denver for some insight on how I should move forward with my education. I had an internship over the summer with Evado PR, and was able to list them as a reference for other job applications. I am also taking a "Networking for Journalism" class, where a professional journalist comes to our class to meet with us and answer our questions.
Video Production Tutoring
I took one video production class in high school and three multi-media classes in college. I am very familiar with Final Cut Pro. I can edit clips and sounds, add captions, create overlays, and more.
