I am good at calculating numbers. I can do up to 6-digit-number addition and subtraction mentally and 3-3 or 2-4 digit multiplcation. I can calculating quicklier than you calculating with a calculator. Don't believe me?? Let's try during our meeting!

About Me

I am currently a Freshman studying at University of California at Berkeley and I am an international student from China. I got a GPA of 4 in my major field and I really enjor studying math and physics. I am now a tutor at Student Learning Center in Berkeley. Outside study field, I love playing classical guitar and playing table tennis and basketball with my friends. I am a member of Chinese Accappella Club and I am the guitarer there.

I have been tutoring math (Calculus and related) for one semester in Student Learning Center at Berkeley. With the help of my instructor Mike, I get to know a bunch of techniques like how to explain something elusive in a more compact and precise way, how to attract students’ attention, how to pose a useful question in a suitable time, how to avoid embarrassment in the class and so on and gradually set up a stronger language ability. Spending time tutoring other students makes me more positive and patient in attitude and more confident facing the problems, and it also forces me to think more about a seemingly simple question than I normally would. Anyway it’s a happy experience and I gained a lot more than just be a tutor.

While I was tutoring others, I also learned much about how to communicate with others who are from diverse countries, with different cultural, educational, linguistic background and with different characteristics and personalities. At first it is hard for me to explain things clearly and make the students understand. Usually I explained a lot but their problems don't seem to be solved. Later I learned how to find out what their exact problems are and concentrate on helping them solve that. And at first I am not accustomed to studying at school while spending my extra hours tutoring. Later on this semester, I gradually learn to balance my time between study and tutor and I think this is useful experience for my life.
