Fun Facts
I am an extremely passionate musician! I have played in various honors ensembles throughout my academic career, but I must say that my most enjoyable experience as a percussionist was playing on my high school drumline. When I have time, I join the summer staff and help the students at my old high school become better musicians.
About Me
My name is K'Mani Blyden and I am a 2020 graduate of Emory University with degrees in Chemistry and Biology . I will be attending medical school in the next few months with hopes of becoming a Vitreo-retinal Surgeon and continue teaching science to middle, high school, and college students, as I thoroughly enjoy tutoring and mentoring.
Experience
During high school, I worked at a local Elementary School and tutored students in mathematics and this began a tutoring career that I am excited to continue. Once in college, I became a STEM Pathways mentor and also volunteered my services to local students. After becoming of the first intercollegiate fraternity for black males, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I became active in a local initiative called the Dekalb Mentoring initiative where I mentored and tutored local young black males.
Approach
I am primarily interested in tutoring sciences, and my approach to these classes generally includes over simplification into language that makes sense. Many topics may be very difficult to grasp at first but by simplifying them down to something that is understandable works. Additionally, using visual aids, and promoting critical thinking by asking questions and using the scientific method will make seemingly difficult science courses a little easier.
