About Me
I grew up in a small town on the Gulf Coast of Texas. It was a country setting few enjoy today; I was often to be found two-stepping, enjoying the creek, or hunting with my dad. When I graduated, I decided that it was time for me to move on and see what the world had in store for me. I am now a third-year student pursuing a degree in Philosophy at the University of Texas. I am currently preparing for two sessions as a counselor at Camp Texas for incoming freshmen and will be taking my MCAT in September. I hope to study abroad in Sydney, Australia next Spring and enroll in medical school during the Fall of 2015.
I tutored two elementary boys (1st and 4th grade) in reading at Metz Elementary during the Spring 2013 semester. It was a special privilege to see them each move up several reading levels under my mentorship. The experience taught me that austin">tutoring is a job that requires a lot of commitment. In fact, one morning when I found that my car had broken down, I rode my rusty old bicycle four miles to make it to my session on time.
I believe there are a variety of ways in which someone can absorb material. I am especially good at inventing new ways with which to process a complicated topic. I believe that if a student can visualize a concept in three dimensions and explain its details to me, then he or she has a much better chance of correctly answering questions about it in a test setting. My academic history includes being a former National Merit Scholar and valedictorian and state champion in cross-examination debate.
