Fun Facts

In my free time, I love to play tennis. I started playing during my freshman year in high school and have been playing ever since. When I'm not playing tennis, I am probably spending time with friends or playing bass guitar. I have been teaching myself how to play bass for almost two years now and I really love it. The task of teaching myself is equally challenging and rewarding, both of which make the whole experience even more enjoyable.

About Me

I am a junior Biochemistry major on the pre-med track at Texas Christian University. After I graduate, I hope to get into medical school either somewhere in Texas or on the west coast, where I am from. Professionally, I want to get into anesthesiology once all of my schooling is complete.

I first got into tutoring during my junior year of high school through my school's National Honor Society. I was paired with underclassmen that were struggling in their biology and chemistry classes, and I met with them once or twice every two weeks. During my senior year, I was given the opportunity to tutor freshmen in biology for a few extra credit points in my AP Biology class. I continued tutoring through National Honor Society, and as a result I was able to meet and help even more students. My tutoring experiences in high school were so positive for me that I am genuinely excited to continue helping other students now that I am in college.

Through my years of schooling, I have found that I learn best through use of analogies. I personally find that they can bring complicated concepts down to a much simpler level that is easier to grasp. When I tutored in high school, I found that while all students learned differently, most enjoyed my use of analogies and began to do it themselves. For example, when I first learned about the layout inside of the animal cell, I devised an analogy that compared the layout of a cell to the layout of a city; a cell's nucleus is like a city government that devises laws about which members of a city can do what, a cell's mitochondria are like a city's power plants, a cell's lysosomes are like a city's waste management system, etc. Throughout high school, I tutored 5 different students about basic cell biology. Each time I did, I used that cell-city analogy. Every single student I used that with began to understand cell biology more and more, and some even began making analogical connections that I hadn't even mentioned. I feel like my learning st
