About Me
I am a Ph.D. student at Claremont Graduate University and am currently working on my final dissertation.
I am very interested in teaching and learning. I have taught at several Universities in Utah and Colorado as well as in non-profit settings.
As a graduate student in the Education, Culture, and Society department at the University of Utah, I study teaching and learning in higher education and how power structures get constructed and re-created in these environments.
I love working in higher education and my community. I have been so privileged to attend college and have dedicated my life to giving back to my community and working towards a more equitable future.
I have several years of experience in the field of education and instruction. I have worked with various organizations such as the Homeless Youth Resource Center Transition Home, Volunteers of America, UT (creating writing workshops and conducting psycho-educational classes) National Alliance on Mental Illness (teaching progression classes to youth 16-20), and Youth Impact (created a youth literacy groups for underrepresented youth ages from 7-20). I have also created a non-profit, Truth Be Told Productions, where we held writing workshops that culminated in an audio/visual traveling community art project entitled Voices: Stories from Survivors of Sexual Violence. These experiences and opportunities are a direct result of my expertise in education and community engagement, my commitment to personal and professional excellence, and my extensive written and oral communication skills.
I have taught both undergraduate and graduate classes at the University of Utah and GED/High School Diploma instruction through Horizonte High School's program through Volunteers of America, UT
I see my educational philosophy much like a constellation, comprised of many stars, each in balance, with unique characteristics poised within a collective to co-create one constellation.
Experience
I have taught at the k-12, 2-year and 4-year higher education levels. I have a masters in education.
Approach
I use a student-led approach to support students in developing their confidence and scaffolding of foundational tenets of curriculum and field. I believe that all students have the ability and skills to succeed, but sometimes need to have it reframed.
As a student with disabilities, I had to learn how to succeed in education in a different way, I have a very kind and nondeficit approach that facilitates a learning environment of curiosity and experimentation without judgement.
