Fun Facts
Although I am a natural science nerd, I have a side passion for art. I range from using acrylic paint to create landscapes to using charcoal to create black and white images. I am the youngest of three and I moved to the United States from Colombia when I was six. I also love animals, especially dogs. In high school, I learned to dance Bhangra, which is a cultural dance that originated in India. Someday soon, I hope to learn how to play the piano or the guitar.
About Me
I am currently a freshman at Florida International University, where I am majoring in the field of Biological Sciences. I graduated from Nova High School in the top 2 percent of my class with distinct honors based on my academic GPA and community service hours. I hope to attend medical school after I graduate from FIU and ultimately become a Pediatric Surgeon, which has been my life-long goal.
Experience
As a member of the Debate Team I was able to tutor elementary students on a weekly basis in general math, science, and reading during my sophomore and junior years of high school. In addition, I had the opportunity to tutor elementary students on a weekly basis in art through the school's Art Club during my junior and senior years of high school. Lastly, during my senior year of high school, I teamed up with my teacher to tutor high school students in biology, chemistry, and calculus.
Approach
Initially, I like to get to know the students in order to make them feel more comfortable during tutoring sessions. I like to go at the student's own pace so that they take their time to understand each concept and idea. I feel it is my responsibility that the student practices both easy and challenging problems during sessions. I like to assign a couple problems for them to practice at home, provide helpful tactics to make studying easier, and go over any difficult school-assigned problems.

Biology
Algebra Tutoring
After taking Algebra One in middle school, I decided to take Algebra Two in high school, which I earned an A in. In addition, I obtained a 5 on the Algebra End Of Course Assessment, which is the highest level possible a student can earn on the Algebra EOC. I have also tutored Algebra students in high school as part of the math club, allowing me to sharpen my mathematical skills.
Arts Tutoring
In high school, I had the opportunity to sharpen my artistic abilities by taking several Advanced Placement classes, AP Studio Art and AP Drawing. I obtained a 4 on both exams, which are graded on a 1-5 scale. In addition, as I volunteered at Young At Art Museum I was able to teach kids from all ages arts and crafts activities, which improved my skills as a teacher. I work with a wide variety of mediums, such as charcoal, acrylic paint, pastels, etc., which allows me to teach others how and when to specifically use each medium.
Biology Tutoring
After taking Biology Honors and AP Biology in high school, I received A's in both semesters of Biology Honors and an A and a B+ for the semesters of AP Biology. I obtained a score of 4 on the End of Course Assessment, which is grades on a 1-5 scale. I also passed the AP Biology exam. Lastly, I partnered up with my teacher to tutor students in biology.
Calculus Tutoring
After taking Calculus Honors and AP Calculus AB in high school, I received A's and B+'s in the semesters of each course. I was also able to pass the AP Calculus AB exam. Through the school's math club I was able to tutor students in all fields of math, including Calculus.

After taking Calculus Honors and AP Calculus AB in high school, I received A's and B+'s in the semesters of each course. I was also able to pass the AP Calculus AB exam. Through the school's math club I was able to tutor students in all fields of math, including Calculus. Currently, I am taking an advanced Calculus course in college, which is strengthening my abilities.
Chemistry Tutoring
After taking Chemistry Honors and AP Chemistry in high school, I was able to obtain A's in both semesters of each class. In addition, I passed the AP Chemistry exam at the end of the year. Lastly, I took the time after school to tutor students taking chemistry at both the Honors and AP level.

Homework Coach Tutoring
When I attended middle school, my homework strategies helped me obtain honor roll and high grades. Sharing these strategies with my friends proved to increase their overall grades by large margins. I make sure to incorporate efficiency and qualitative traits to these strategies to insure that they help me and others complete quality work in a short period of time.
Middle School Math Tutoring
I had the opportunity of taking high level math courses when I was in middle school. They included Advanced Math One, Advance Math Two, and Algebra One Honors. I obtained A's in both terms of each class. Since then I have taken higher level math courses that have enabled me to sharpen my mathematical skills.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I had the opportunity of taking high level English courses when I was in middle school. They included Language Arts One, Language Arts Two, and Advanced Language Arts Three. I obtained A's in both terms of each class. Since then I have taken higher level English courses that have enabled me to sharpen my reading and writing skills.
Spanish Tutoring
I had the opportunity of taking high level Spanish courses when I was in middle school. They included Advanced Spanish One and Advanced Spanish Two. I obtained A's in both terms of each class. In addition, as a native speaker I have been able to sharpen my Spanish writing and speaking skills.
FCAT Tutoring
I received high scores when I took the FCAT, which is graded on a 1-5 scale. I obtained a 5 in the reading section, a 4 in the writing exposition section, and a 5 in the math section. In addition, I have helped students improve their scores when I tutored them. For example, a student I once mentored was able to move his score from a 2 to a 4 through the FCAT tutoring sessions that we completed together.
