About Me

My name is Liana Gergely and I am a senior at Barnard College of maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">columbia-university">maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia University. I am double majoring in English and Dance and am incredibly passionate about my studies, hoping to maybe go into academia one day. I am very involved on campus, have spectacular study skills and time management skills, and am loving and dedicated. I am originally from Los Angeles, California and am ecstatic to be living in New York City.

I have not had much tutoring experience, but my sister is two years younger than me and I often assisted her with her homework through high school. I have helped many of my friends with their organizational skills. I am an incredibly fast learner, very sensitive and personable, and feel that I can adapt to a student's learning style very quickly. I will always get the material in advance so I can thoroughly prepare before arriving at the lesson. This way, I am able to answer all of the student's questions and concerns. In High School I taught a hip hop dance class for kids of Head Start families, and am really able to connect with children of all ages. This is also exhibited in my strong babysitting skills.

My philosophy is that of patience, diligence, and love. I believe that in meeting a student where he or she is, we can grow together. I hope to affirm the student's natural strengths while pushing them to a higher level of achievement through organized lesson plans, step by step support and encouragement, and gentle but constructive corrections. I am available to simply sit there and oversee a student doing homework or guide them through a concept or chapter. My approach is adaptable, but most importantly I hope to encourage self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-motivation.
